On Tuesday morning Lauren went in for her myleomeningocele repair. Dr. Tulipan is one of the best in the world-which eases some nerves. We were told that everything went very well on the repair. Even better news? Her lesion through ultra sound was L1-L2, however once they were able to look first hand they believe it to be L3. This means that she may have more mobility in her legs...only time will tell.
Upon assessment before surgery Dr. Tulipan realized he would need more skin to close her wound completely. So, a plastic surgeon took skin graffs from her little thighs and used these to fix her back. This will make the recovery time MUCH longer, but will fix our little girl.
